What is IASTM? Why do I need it?

What is IASTM (Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization), Scraping, or "Tool Work"?

IASTM stands for Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, and it is a type of massage that uses specifically designed tools to help improve the health of your muscles and tissues. IASTM works like a standard massage, but specialized instruments are used. These instruments allow more direct treatment of the soft tissues involved with movement.

Tissues targeted are muscles, fascia-connective tissue that surrounds and separates muscles, ligaments-tissue that connects bones to other bones, and tendons-tissue that connects muscles to bones.

How it Works?

IASTM therapy causes microtrauma to induce a local inflammatory response in the soft tissue region, where you feel the tightness, knots, and/or stiffness. This causes the old tissue to begin the healing process and remolding of the soft tissue being worked on.

Some of the common conditions that can be treated with IASTM are:

  • Medial Epicondylitis, Lateral Epicondylitis

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
